NYC instagrammed

As the holiday clock is ticking down, and the rush of gift giving day nears I found myself in New York's boroughs inhaling the spirit of decorated pines and glitzy ribbons and bows. Even though traces of monster storm Sandy can still be felt in parts of the city, crowds embrace the positive essence of wonder and cheer, casually flashing brightly-wrapped shopping bags.

How cool is this eclectic deer spotted in SoHo??

Urban Empty

Have you ever imagined what New York would look like without people? Or LA? Or any other iconic American city??
Film guru Ross Ching captured time-lapse photography into short series called "Empty America"  of sightseeing in legendary cities like New York and Washington DC, without people. Curiously, the videos were not intended to promote apocalyptic message, rather they're meant to show residents and tourists something they rarely experience: a city at peace with itself, the most beautiful aspects without distraction of noise, pollution and human activity.

In search of Boots

The other day I slipped my ballerinas and a coat, walked outside, and immediately my feet were tickled by pricks of wind and soon I noticed they were turning blue. Oh, no...and a quick reminder flashed in my head...'tis the season for boots, my friend! I really like unusual shapes or colors of shoes, and boots is no exception. This warm cyber Monday I've been searching for boots, for different occasions and budgets; and my stylish finds could break the bank but also so admirable!

Which pair speaks to you?

Where to buy: Textured, Cowboy, Chevron, Native, Exotic, RED

Harvest Feasting

It's November to remember and give thanks to those generous souls who had saved pilgrims from starvation. I hear gobble-gobble louder every day, as the Turkey feast approaches. This holiday is a perfect opportunity to reconnect with family and friends, gather around the table and embrace a precious moment of collective cheer. I find these modern table settings particularly spectacular to impress my guests and entertain with style!

Autumn painted yellow

I love to wear brights in autumn, especially in November, my birthday month.
So, #fabricproject No.10  "Purple Florals" came handy when I completed my skirt inspired by Marc     Jacobs design.
The fabric was lustrous taffeta with crinkly feel, and was easy enough to work with. A simple   A-line   skirt was exaggerated to enormous proportions and then gathered to create a full effect.
I'm very happy with the skirt, so I walked to an old village for an autumn stroll painted yellow with maple leaves and my cardigan.

Spooky Halloween

This pre-Halloween has been really spooky with winds gushing through my window, trees fiercely dancing hip hop and my house shaking and squealing as the dark monster "Frankenstorm" was creeping in.
As hiding indoors was inevitable, we lit up bleeding candles and made the event as romantic as possible with a cocktail's help. Mixology has been my hidden hobby, so when I'm away from Windows screen, I'm creating strange mixtures out of unique ingredients, yet I give my highest respects to liquor by tasting only small doses.
I found this creepy recipe called "Catacombs of Paris"  and felt the concoction fit the theme perfectly.
I had another fantastic reason to raise a glass today, and it's my Blogaversary! My baby project turned 1 year today,  and I almost feel guilty for not buying the cake.

Cheers to Halloween and DC2NYCo!

#RussianFashionWeek Highlights

As we prepare for winter, catwalks are still gleaming somewhere across the ocean all prepped for sunshine of summer.
#RussianFashionWeek proves to be as diverse and full of creativity as never before.
Kira Plastinina sold her label few years ago on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, and now she is back with a revamped image of more character and maturity. Mosaics and vivid prints reigned in this collection.

Fabric Project No.10. Purple Florals

I've always been infatuated with full mini skirts, as they offer excellent concealment for any visible imperfections...
Especially I love skirts that are easy to put on and wear; elastic waist band will do and I feel like a little girl again. How funny, memories of childhood stir into adult wardrobe ideas, but why not?
As long as we have fun with it, spice up that "serious" closet with playful items.
I've been eyeing this Marc by Marc Jacobs skirt for sometime now, dreaming about similar piece for myself, for a fraction of the cost.

So, here's the inspiration for #fabricproject No.10:
Marc by Marc Jacobs night bird skirt $350
And here's my version with DC2NYCo twist:

Stay tuned for a finished look!!

Look of the Day. Little Black Peplum

#fabricproject No.9 turned out to be the first little black dress I've designed so far.
Double knit jersey served the purpose being an easy fabric to work with, and  a little interfacing inside the peplum detail added desired volume...
I paired the dress with my DIY necklace and a vintage water snake jacket.
Now, let's check out the photos!

Fabric Haul. Fall 2012 edition

It's that time of year when air is filled with chill and trees dress up in bright hues of red, orange and yellow, to impress one last time before falling into winter hibernation.
Cold really showed itself last weekend, and I really felt it on Sunday when I walked out bare legged and short-sleeved. Oh fall, let's welcome you once again!
It was a perfect opportunity to go fall fabric shopping, as my closet craves all the fun pieces I've seen on runways the past season. And, what could be better for fabric shopping than NYC Garment district.
It was a sunny warm day, perfect to hop in and out of stores in search of that perfect wool or tweed (or trim). I decided to go with earthy palette, with a splash of fun prints here and there.

So, here's what I scored for my next #fabricproject:

I found really unique trim pieces:
black lace, fur trimmed leather, flower applique, fringe, Chinese braid, and golden elastic

What have you scored for the cold season?
I hope you can boast some exciting finds just like me.

Paris Fashion Week S/S 2013. Textures

Paris gave us an overdose of textures, inspired and borrowed from all over the world.
Textures are awesome, they can be screaming and muted, savory and sweet, or even bringing memories
from your geometry class.
Whatever the inspiration, we have been served textural a la carte, Parisian style.
Here are the themes:
