DIY Anna Sui inspired Turban

As the month of May is coming to an end, I'm excited to post May edition DIY project.
For S/S 2012 Fashion catwalks gleamed with all kinds of bohemian hair accessories, remember my post about
S/S 2012 trends and the retro headwraps?
I've been on the lookout for a nice colorful turban, perfect to partially hide my locks from the sun and show some fashion attitude.
Again, I turned to online sources..and I found Anna Sui's S/S 2012 collection featuring all kinds of head wraps. Isn't it so much more special to make your own?

Fabric Project No.5 "Flower Power"

Hey loves!
While traveling across the country from East to West, I've seen many flowering plants smiling at me with joy.
Since we're only few days short of June, my dressing mood is blooming too!
So, I peeked into my wardrobe in search of something floral, and my eyes kept wandering...to no avail..
Inspired, I typed "floral"  on the web for instant inspiration, and immediately, a bright blossom of a skirt by Alice+Olivia caught my gaze. So beautiful, but not for $247 price tag.
Of course, I can make my own little skirt! I was lucky to find a similar piece of fabric, so let the "Flower Power" project begin!

Here's the inspiration:

My design will be finished in a few days!

Emerald City Instagrammed

Hi, friends!
The past week I played a part of the cast from Wizard of Oz, and traveled far away in the northern direction, to Emerald City.
Can anyone guess the name?
It starts with an S...hint,hint...the land of Microsoft and rainy climate. That's right, Seattle that is.
So, my curiosity led me to learn that Seattle's magic nickname refers to "the Wizard" living there, Bill Gates is his name....
Another version is the nickname refers to "to the lush evergreen trees in the surrounding area"...
Anyhow, my experience of the city included smelling the pine-scented air, tall evergreen trees everywhere, snow peaks, misty slash cloudy skies, drive-thru coffee stands and lots of Asian food.
Hope you enjoy my visual Instagrammed diary of the area, and take a virtual ride with me to
the Emerald City.

Look of the Day. Mint Ice Cream {in the Rain}+Blog Award

Hi, friends!
Remember my Fabric Project "Mint Ice Cream" post  with Marni inspiration and my original sketch?
Well, I was anxious to complete it for my anticipated trip to Emerald City, the land of pine trees and rainy climate.
So, the last days before my departure were truly hectic, running circles in my studio, going through several production stages of my Marni-inspired dress and getting it all together. The smart term "production stages" involves creating a pattern for a garment, cutting out fabric, initial sewing, rough fitting, finishing and final fitting--all in ONE day for me. Now the hassle is over, so I can sit back and post on the blog, while sipping my coffee at Starbucks...
So, here it is, my look of the day for you!

Summer Accessory Trend: Female Bowtie

 Happy Friday, loves!
I've been searching the web for unique must-have accessories for approaching Summer and here I'm,
finding the next hot trend inspired by classic menswear attire.
A bow-tie for ladies.
A french designer Alexis Mabille borrowed freely from the world of tailored suits, with sharp cuts and bright colors, redesigned a feminine version in watercolor dupioni silk and playful stripes and decorated with flowers.
I'm totally loving this trend, and you?

Fabric Project No.4 "Mint Ice Cream"

Hey, loves!
The spring is slowly transitioning into summer as the weather gets hotter and my sweet tooth is craving cold treats.
So, my next Fabric Project with a delicious name "Mint Ice Cream" is here.
I found Marni 1950s inspired mint pleated dress that looks simple in design yet is perfectly ladylike. However, the $945 price tag made me decide to design my own!
My wardrobe is craving candy-colored mint green which lends a cheerful polish to day and cocktail night alike.
I can't wait to get started on this exciting project, and again, I have only a few days to complete it to wear for a special event. So, I'll be showing my completed look sometime this week..

Here's the inspiration:

Sunday Designer Review. Viva Vox

I'm absolutely in love with Viva Vox F/W 2012-13 womenswear collection.
The Russian designer Oleg Ovsiev behind the brand transforms 80s inspired trends into extraordinary and powerful designs. The oversize broad shoulders and asymmetric lines along with unexpected fur details create plenty of drama and high energy. Definitely, these designs are intended for audacious, powerful and fearless women.
Incredibly, I would wear most of these designs, and wouldn't you?

Beach Life from Above

Beach season is upon us, friends!
Before I pack my bags again, I enjoy viewing destination photos in search of a new inspiration. Especially, I've been infatuated with aerial travel photography, because of so many details in one photo.
Particularly, my senses are stirred when viewing captivating images by a French photographer,
His unique ability to shoot aerial views from around the world has long been recognized by the most well-known publications and media. It's fascinating to see different nations approach to recreation.

Mar del Plata Beach, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Drying laundry by the banks of Chari River in Chad
Ipanema Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Promotional Island, Lake Balaton, Hungary

Patong Beach, Phuket Island, Thailand

Travel Diary

Hi, loves!
I've just got back from my mini-vacation covering several cities in the south.
It's time to unpack bags and resume normal schedule. I love to keep a visual diary during my travels, especially with such an amazing iPhone tool like Instagram.
Easy snapshots capture unforgettable moments forever and I'm excited to share some of them with you.
I've seen breathtaking city views as well as unique shops and cultural landmarks, and each and every photo leaves a special memory behind.
Hope you enjoy and you can see more of me on Webstagram here  or check out my profile on your mobile device @dc2nyco.

Look of the Day. Dreamy Butterflies

Hey, loves!
Finally, I found myself near the water, near turquoise infinity called ocean and white flour called sand.
My week started with a hectic desire to finish my anticipated caftan from
the Fabric project "Dreamy Butterflies", remember? And then, long hours of driving down south in search of that perfectly serene beach.
The challenge of this sewing project was to make chiffon "obey" the rules of straight cutting and even stitching. Chiffon is by far the hardest fabric to work with but I'm happy with the end result. I absolutely adored wearing this caftan today, enjoying its flowy texture and sheer weightless feel.
So perfect for a hot day at the beach...
