Art Plated.

This long weekend has probably been filled with yummy goodies for most of us on the Western hemisphere. What if the ingredients are masterfully juxtaposed on a plate to become too beautiful to eat? Some creative foodies, like Lauren Purnell, designed a series of food art plates named "Culinary Canvas" utilizing all kinds of fruit, veggies and herbs. The result is certainly an eye candy!
Hope, everyone had a great (and indulgent) Thanksgiving!

Bundle Up for the Polar Vortex

Have you felt the so-called "November Polar Vortex" yet? I not only heard about it in my local weather report, but also felt the piercing wind and dreadful chill as soon as I peeked my nose into outdoors. As a fashionista, not only do I want to be cozy and warm in that frigid torment, I also want to style my look with a trendy appeal. I came across several recent editorials to serve an inspiration and a visual warmth. Indeed, fur (especially long and hairy) undeniably is an ongoing trend for chilly days like today and a long winter ahead.

Fabric Project No.14 "Chevron Cape"

It's been a while since I visited my studio for a sewing project, as recent months were filled with lots of activities outside the blog. This summer I purchased a gorgeous wool chevron fabric in heather and charcoal tones as I anticipated to start exploring the outerwear in my Fabric Project series. Initially, the idea was to design a coat, but I always dreamed of a cape. A cape undoubtedly makes a statement, worn historically by leaders of revolution and free spirit. When I saw the design below by Valentino in exact same fabric, and the four-digit price, I nearly fell from my chair. I thought "This is it! I'm making a cape!"
So, wish me luck, as I'm a little nervous sewing outerwear, but I'll do my best and "Look of the Day" post will follow shortly.

This is the inspiration:

Fall 2014 Trend: Over-the-Knee Boots

It's getting cold, and I'm reaching for boots in my closet. And, what am I missing? Of course, the over-the-knee boots, a hot trend this season! Even though this trend made its landfall already in 2013, these tall boots stubbornly marched from runways into Fall 2014 with a more casual, riding style appeal. I'm absolutely swooning over this (should I call it "sexy") trend, as these boots make legs look slimmer and longer and can be worn with a variety of looks. The widened shapes on the top really make a bold leg statement for any fashionista. It's definitely a must-have for every wardrobe, since they go great with either bare legs or skinny jeans or leggings. You choose...

Hammocks in the Air

Yes, you've read it right! Hammocks in the air took over the Monte Piana peaks of Italian Alps for an annual International Highline Meeting festival. If you're an outdoorsy person with inner streak for super-extreme outing, this is a place for you. These extreme-loving folks call themselves "slackers" because of slacklines they balance themselves on. They suspend the hummocks on flattened rope, which can bounce and wiggle from side to side. But, seriously, how terrifying it must feel to hang in there, but I guess extra adrenaline rush gives them comfort, sorta...

DIY Fringed Clutch

Hasn't fringe taken over fashion world lately??
Fringe has been an accessory of choice of many designers for Fall 2014 season, and going strong for Spring 2015. Few days ago I was window shopping online, when I came across many gorgeous fringed clutches, but the one in black particularly caught my attention. Black is a must-have for Fall season, and I knew I can create my very own design without sacrificing my wallet. Also, I dug out an old "plain jane" clutch in the closet, and I thought, "I must do something with it and give it another chance in life!" So, now I can sport this  proudly made Fringed Clutch, hooray!

    You will need:
    1. 10" long fringe
    2. Tacky Glue
    3. A simple clutch (similar here)
    4. 1" Satin Ribbon (similar here)
    5. Tailor's scissors
    6. Glue gun, needle and thread, matchsticks, lighter

    ***
Step 1: Start with creating a ribbon pattern which will be applied on the clutch. Cut small pieces of     ribbon and start gluing from the center. Dab a little glue and use matchsticks to even it out on             surface.

Step 2. Continue gluing ribbon in a desired pattern overlapping edges. I only glued ribbon on one       side.

Step 3. Make sure you seal the top edges with a lighter to prevent unraveling.

Step 4. Once you finished one side, let dry for 30 minutes and then continue to the other side. Let       dry for another 30 minutes.

Sexy Back

When I was shopping for my bridal gown a few months ago, I came across Galia Lahav  couture bridal and eveningwear house. I instantly fell in love with these stunning gowns! Based in Tel Aviv, Israel, this house amazes me with its dazzling creations, accenting special focus on "Sexy Back". The delicate embroidery, dramatic trains and fine beaded details offer an instant show-stopper factor for every bride. The head designer, Galia, comes from Russia, so no wonder it produces the most sophisticated talent.
