D.I.Y. Proenza Schouler Canvas Tote. Part 2

Hey, loves!
Tonight I come back (as promised!) with Part 2 of the Proenza Schouler inspired tote that I started yesterday..
Although, I really want to show you the result first, and then I'll continue with tutorial. I must admit the project turned out harder than I thought, but I'm happy with the result and now I have a large tote to go shopping for fabric or meet for casual lunch.
Let me know what you think of this project!

Please see tutorial on next page...

Step 6.
Now we're ready to attach handles. Fold the flaps wrong sides together that we stitched to top of the tote in Step 4. Pin the flaps edges avoiding the tote itself, so that stitching won't show on the right side of tote.

Step 7.
Stitch the flap together right next to the handle. Now your handles are attached to the tote. Press the flaps inward.

Step 8.
Now we're ready to assemble lining. Measure the length of tote including bottom+1 inch. Measure and cut your lining fabric accordingly. Measure and cut 2 side pieces according to bag measurements (im my case it was 17" length+1 inch and 6 1/2" width). Pin together as in picture and stitch. Press.

Step 9.
Now your lining is ready, all stitched and pressed.Turn the tote inside out and insert bag into the lining (bag in bag). Make sure wrong sides are together. Pin along the edge as shown.

Step 10.
Hand stitch lining to tote as shown. Press again and now your tote is complete.

Step 11.
Now open the magnetic snaps and mark the slits about 1 inch down from the top and 1 1/2" from the sides. Make 2 very tiny cuts for each snap just enough for the snap legs to be pulled inside. Press the snap really hard to set it in place. Now your extendable side is ready. Repeat on the other side.

Finally, after 11 steps your tote is ready to be shown to the world!!
I hope you enjoyed this project, and there will be some more exciting ones coming up.
Have a great weekend!
